First Date

Reverse stockinette stitch sets off gorgeous lace in this asymmetrical pullover.

First Date is a mash up of my Tia Teva pattern whose stranded work goes this-a-way and that-a-way, together with my Water Hyacinth lace stitch pattern.

The short-row lace sections aren't just pretty,
they are used to shape to the neckline ...

... and also add a little swirl to the hemline.

First Date is knitted in one piece seamlessly from the top down. Reverse stockinette areas are worked inside out (all knit stitches) in the round; some lace areas are worked flat back and forth, and others are in the round. Small provisional cast-ons are worked at the underarms.

Stats

Finished sweater measures: 30 (33, 35, 38, 41, 44) (47, 49, 52, 55, 58)". 0-3" ease recommended. Shown in Graphite in size 38, worn with 2" ease, and in Rain in size 35 worn with -1" ease (a little snug).


Yarn: Sunday Knits 3 ply (light sport-weight) yarns including Nirvana (merino cashmere), Eden (merino), Angelic (merino angora) or Brigadoon (merino tweed); 246 yds (225 m) per 50 gm skein: 5 (6, 6, 6, 7, 7) (8, 8, 9, 10, 11) skeins.

Gauge: 23 sts and 32 rows = 4" / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch using size 5 (3.75) mm needles.

Needles & Notions:US 5 (3.75 mm) for gauge swatch, and sizes 3 (3.25mm) and 4 (3.5 mm) circular and/or double-pointed needles; cable needle, stitch mark- ers, crochet hook for provisional cast-on, stitch holder or waste yarn.

Techniques used: Alternate cable cast-on, reading charts, lace worked both flat and in the round.
