Wishbones beret and cap
I've always loved this sort of interlocking cable stitch, ever since I was 6 years old and my mom knitted my dad a grey pullover vest with just this kind of cable up the front (picture a 1959 high school chemistry teacher with horned rimmed glasses). It was perfect on my dad's vest, and I think it's equally perfect travelling up a cute cap or beret. |

The pattern includes instructions for both beret and cap. This is the beret in Eden rose.

I like the way the wishbones get smaller and smaller toward the center.

Finished Size 22" band circumference. Adjust needle size for a smaller or larger hat. Instructions for cap (with instructions for beret in parentheses)
Yarn Sunday Knits 3 ply (225 m/246 yd per 50 gm):
Nirvana (92% merino 8% cashmere), Eden (100% merino), Brigadoon (merino tweed) or Angelic (75% merino, 25% angora): 1 50-gm skein (1 50-gm skein and 1 20-gm skein). Cap shown in Nirvana earth, beret in Eden rose

US Size 2 (3 mm) and 5 (3.75 mm)
Notions Tapestry needle, stitch marker
Gauge Using size 5 needles and knitting the round, 24 sts, 28 rows = 4" in St st. |
